Understanding Safeguarding for Children

This course is designed for professionals who work with children and young adults aged under 18 in the care setting.

We will explore what safeguarding is, specifically focusing on children. We will focus on a person-centred approach, looking at the role child protection plays in keeping children safe. We will look at who may have care and support needs and who is responsible for safeguarding.

We will look at the relevant legislation for safeguarding children, what rights and responsibilities individuals have, what obligations the law places upon individuals and organisations and how the legislation keeps people safe. We will support attendees to identify the different categories of abuse, what may constitute an offence and how to recognise, respond to and report any safeguarding concerns.
